Although most lenses are made of plastic, we still need to be careful. Both wet and dry methods are OK and it depends on how dirty your glasses are.

Here are some basic procedures. Firstly, run warm water over each lens, front and back. Next, run a small amount of mild hand soap carefully over the lenses, and then rinse immediately with warm water, you may repeat if necessary. At last, dry with a soft towel or, if you don’t need to wear the glasses right away, leave them on a flat surface to dry. Some people may ask whether eyeglasses cleaners and sprays are introduced or not. Actually, they are available if you prefer them. But you should remember that some of them are designed to be used with a dry cloth, and others are to be used in place of soap when washing glasses under running water.

There also are some notes you should keep in mind. The first one is when cleaning your glasses, not to distort or bend the frames or nosepieces. Many people wear glasses with metal frames, especially those made of thin wire, are really easily bent. If you accidentally bend them and can’t fix them on yourself, you’d better take them to an optician as soon as possible for professional repair. The second one is each time you clean them, check the screws and hold the frame together since it’s much easier for you to tighten a screw that it is to search for it after it falls out. After you finish the cleaning, do not rest your glasses on the lenses. This will scratch, and you know well it’s hard to see through scuffed or scratched lenses. Good eyeglasses can last several years, especially with proper cleaning and care.

To spare a few minutes off your schedule to give your eyeglasses a nice bath, and you will finally find it’s worth the effort to prolong its life.
