The life of Middle America usually is described like this: they live in the suburb and have a house of 2~4 rooms (divided payment). They have 2 or 3 kids, a dog, 2 cars (one made in Japan, the other made in America, divided payment). The grasses in the garden are pruned orderly. The husband goes out and works hard everyday. The wife raises their children and does housework at home. They sign out more than 15 bill checks immediately when they got their salary. They love watching talk show. At the weekends, they borrow two video tapes and watch them with Coca Cola and popcorn. They make the Christmas tree every day and both the husband and the wife are gaining weight.

For Middle American, the payments of every month in their daily life are not difficult. The 3 most difficult things are: 1. Buying house. 2. Support their children to go to university. 3. Live a decent retired life.

A house of Middle American usually cost $75,000~$200,000. They usually pay them divided in 30 years and add to 7%~8% interests. For education, a kid born in 2000 may need $180,000 to study in public university and more than $300,000 if he will study in private university like Harvard and Stanford. For a Middle American couples who earn ordinary salary, if they want their life keep the standard before their retirements, they will no doubt need hundreds of thousands money in their deposit.

With all these goals of life of Middle American, no one feel he is rich enough. Unlike the middle classes in Russia, they seldom enjoy their holiday aboard. They can’t use more than half of their salary to enjoy a couple of days’ fun. Instead, they live a careful life of every penny. Dads are working hard to earn more bonuses for their family. Mums are thinking about how to reduce their family payout and when to go to the super market can they buy things in the lowest price. Students have a part time job in their vocation are very common and most of them enjoy it.

In the garden of Mrs. Baker, she’s talking with her neighbor Mrs. Crisps.

“Oh, little Mike broke his glasses again! It’s the third one this month!”

“That’s too bad. Where did you buy them for him?”

“In glasses shop, of course, I hate going there. The service is not good and the prices are terrible. But it’s the only glasses shop near us. I don’t have other choice.”

“The brown one? I like them! They look cool!”
