2009 Spring Trends For prescription Glasses

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

You may not know, but I wear my prescription glasses, I have been for the past seven years.  I never use to like wearing them because I thought I looked kinda geeky and thought my glasses looked old fashioned, but now a days prescription glasses are just as hot as some of these trendy sunglasses.

Get creative with some color, don’t stick to the plain old black frames like me, it’s time to think outside the box.  Apart from the bold in your face colors, soft pastel colors are in this spring, the lavenders, the pinks, soft oranges, almost every color you can think of for glasses.  Sunglasses are huge this season, the bigger the better.  One of the trends for sunglasses and prescriptions are very retro, cool, oversized white frames.

Rimless aviator frames:
These frames give a sleek and modern look, this style is more sporty than glamorous.  With so many styles and colors, you need to start putting your eye wear wardrobe together, so that your eye wear isnt out of step with your clothing choice for the day.

When to Wear Prescription Glasses

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

where ,It is suggested that a person should have their eyes examined by an optometrist every two years or every year after the age of 60, to determine whether they need to wear prescription eyeglasses. Also, If any of the following symptoms occur, then an eye exam needs to be scheduled.

* unusual headaches reoccur while reading, watching television or working on a computer.

* having a hard time focusing in on objects.

* the eyes are red or swollen for unknown reasons.

There are some tests  during a routine eye exam to determine whether prescription eyeglasses are needed.

Glaucoma test. It is a build up of fluid in the eye that causes the retina to have pressure. Glaucoma doesn’t really have any symptoms, but over time can cause total vision loss.

Peripheral vision test. It determines the degree of side vision that a person has.

Visual Acuity test. It is the test that determines one ability to distinguish letter, shapes and number in various sizes and from various distances.

There are three professions that work with the eyes.

  1. An Optometrist examines the eyes for diseases and medical conditions. They are licensed to dispense prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, and any needed medications.
  2. An ophthalmologist is an eye doctor that can perform any needed eye surgeries. They work very closely with the optometrist.
  3. An Optician is a person that makes the lenses, frames and contact lenses. They analyze the prescription that the Optometrist has given. They assist with fitting frames and lenses.

When the exam shows that prescription eyeglasses are needed, the optometrist will then either help you decide which frames and lenses best suits your specific needs, or refer you to an optician.

Buy Prescription Glasses Online save lot

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

A new trend recently covered by some major news media outlets has consumers doing a bit of hands-on window shopping at eye glasses stores, but then waiting to make their purchases online.

For years the more Internet-savvy have been buying cheap prescription glasses frames online, but then had to go to their local eye glasses store to have their prescription lenses put in. And anyone who wears glasses knows that the lenses often cost more than the frames.

The biggest step forward in this new shopping trend in recent months and years is the ability now to be able to buy prescription glasses online, including the lenses, and to save on the entire package.

Finding prescription glasses is not merely an act of casual frugality. Well, for some it may be. But for others, especially those with multiple children who need glasses, finding prescription glasses is a financial necessity. A decent pair of glasses and lenses can easily cost hundreds of dollars. Multiplied by a few kids and that becomes a debilitative expense.

With no option but to shop at a local opticians or eye glasses store, families that need to shell out on multiple pairs of prescription glasses are usually forced to settle for cheaper brands of reduced quality. When children are involved, that typically means the glasses become scratched, worn down or broken at an accelerated rate. (more…)
